20 KEYS program - a practical tool for the improvement of workplace efficiency
In the age of global economy companies inevitably face severe global competition. To successfully survive in this modern competitive environment the companies should continuously improve in order to manufacture better products and render better services faster and cheaper than their competitors.
To assist the companies plenty of methods of organizing and managing workplace have been invented such as 5S, TPM, etc. However it is necessary to understand that it is impossible to obtain a competitive advantage using only one method, and the company can achieve its goals only by combining various techniques.
The Practical Program of Revolutions in Factories created by professor Iwao Kobayashi, Japan, also known as 20 Keys program, is in fact a combination of all existing methods of efficiency and quality improvement in a unique integrated system. This program is a result of analysis and synthesis of numerous case studies from different factories based on the individual experience of the author who for many years had been a consultant of a large number of factories. The 20 Keys system is designed to help companies significantly improve their efficiency. The program is very simple and "transparent" and can be successfully implemented in any sphere of business.
The main objective of the program is to identify and eliminate any type of activity which is not adding value by means of 20 interlinked practical keys. Accordingly, the company activity is subdivided into twenty areas of key importance for its competitiveness and profitability. Then every key area is evaluated using five-level scoring system and the weak points are identified. Next, the company undertakes certain actions to improve and develop the identified bottle necks. The program features not only a set of practical methods of workplace improvement but their integration in a complete unit. In other words, improvement in one key will automatically generate improvement in any other key.
Hundreds of small and middle businesses as well as multinational corporations have obtained competitive advantages by means of this program. Among them are «Cadbury», «Gillette», «Siemens», «Gorenje», «Sanyo», «Mitsubishi Electric» and «Seiko Instruments». As practical experience shows, the 20 Keys implementation leads to productivity increase, cost reduction and quality improvement, the overall result of which is raising competitive capacities of the product. Business Excellence Benchmarking Club was among the first companies in Russia to assess the advantages of this system and its vital importance for Russian business. The club is actively participating in every conference and event dedicated to the 20 Keys program both in Russia and abroad. By the decision of the 7th 20 Keys International Conference in Zagreb Business Excellence Benchmarking Club obtained a license for promoting 20 Keys program in Russia. The license was granted to Yuri Samoilov, Vice President of the Club, by Yoshuki Kobayashi.
With the aim of promoting 20 Keys program in Russia, Business Excellence Benchmarking Club invites companies of different ownership structure and belonging to different sectors of economy to tender for participation in pilot projects on the 20 Keys program implementation. The club has also started the selection of applicants for participation in training program aimed at the preparation of experts for 20 Keys program initiation in Russia.
